Manage all aspects of the Enterprise Applications Services department which is administratively homed within the University of Alaska Statewide Administration's Office of Information Technology. All decisions detailed, implied and understood to be associated with the responsibilities set forth in this position description are made without obtaining supervisor approval; the management model in effect for OIT Applications Services is complete delegation to the greatest extent permitted by university regulation from its executive director to all directly reporting managers so as to cultivate director candidates from managers (and a university CIO from a director). Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position: - Demonstrated track record of successfully incorporating technology into administrative and academic solutions for higher education; - Demonstrated track record of instituting and maintaining exemplary standard of care for customer including expectation management, solving problems within budget and acquiring knowledge of customer's professional discipline; - Demonstrated track record of successful recruitment, placement, employee retention, employee professional development, and employee career coaching including out-the-door placement; - Demonstrated track record of exemplary ethics and professional integrity, including instilling such in subordinates, peers and superiors; - Deep working knowledge of enterprise resource planning system design, operation, modification and maintenance, including underlying relational database management technologies, information exchange technologies, and data integrity methodologies; - Working knowledge of technology evaluation, selection and procurement processes as practiced in higher education; - Working knowledge of prevailing higher education student services information management principles and practices; - Working knowledge of prevailing human resources information management principles and practices as those pertain to higher education; - Working knowledge of project management principles as applied to and practiced in higher education; - Evidence of familiarity with prevailing strategic enrollment management principles and practices as those pertain to higher education; - Mastery of production environment stabilization methodologies for application software-based solutions. - Evidence of effective relationship building and maintenance with technology depts. to ensure no nonsense service to university. Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses): - Bachelor's degree or equivalent in software engineering, computer science or closely related field required, AND - Graduate degree, certifications, or track record of continuing education in management required. Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position: - Working knowledge of SCT Banner, an ERP product by Sungard Higher Education, Inc. - Working understanding of Alaska's public system of higher education, including its administrative structure, governance and unit responsibilities as set forth by the governor-appointed Board of Regents; - Working understanding of University of Alaska regulations; - Evidence of familiarity with Capability Maturity Models and principles as applied to technical organizations and practicing professionals; - Evidence of familiarity with financial information systems and accounting practices as those pertain to higher education; |
