Executive Director Online Learning and Academic Technologies

Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is seeking an Executive Director of Online Learning and Academic Technologies. S/he reports to the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction.

The Executive Director leads the development and implementation of academic technology policy initiatives reflecting the goals and priorities of FIT's strategic plan, 2020: FIT at 75, in particular, strengthening the academic core and committing to a culture of student-centeredness. The Executive Director designs, implements and supports pedagogical strategies that enhance FIT's technology-based learning initiatives, and facilitates curricular innovation and faculty collaboration.

The Executive Director provides leadership for FIT's online and web-enhanced courses overseeing the development of online programs and their assessment to ensure their quality. S/he develops, conducts and oversees faculty technology training in line with models of effective practice and pedagogy, and assists faculty with course design. S/he facilitates the transition to FIT's new learning management system, Angel; works effectively with the relevant offices at FIT and at SUNY; and keeps pace with technology developments as they emerge, and as they apply to FIT's mission and academic programs. S/he ensures the smooth operation of services for online students and maintains the distance learning website at FIT.

In collaboration with department chairs, deans, the Center for Excellence in Teaching, the Library, and Information Technology, the Executive Director initiates, assesses and enhances academic technology programs, including the digital repository, podcasts, and other emerging technologies. S/he manages the program budget and actively explores external funding sources (federal grants, foundation support, corporate sponsorship, etc.).

Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership skills, a solid and current knowledge of instructional design and distance education, experience working with college faculty in technology training, a primary and demonstrable interest in interactive technologies, and experience in post-secondary curriculum development.

Requirements. A master's degree (doctorate preferred) and substantial experience teaching distance learning courses. Expertise in technology and web-based tools, strong organizational and management abilities, excellent communication skills, and experience working collaboratively with faculty and developing curriculum are required. A degree in instructional technology or a related discipline, and leadership in online learning a definite plus, as is experience in grant-writing, program development, and budget oversight.
