The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston, a leading academic health sciences center located on the Texas Gulf Coast, is searching for highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates to fill an IT Compliance Specialist-Galveston National Laboratory position in our Microbiology and Immunology Department. The IT Compliance Specialist will play an integral role in the operation of the Galveston National Laboratory, one of two National Biocontainment Laboratories to be constructed under grants awarded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases/National Institutes of Health (NIAID/NIH). The Galveston National Laboratory (GNL) will provide much-needed research space to develop therapies, vaccines and diagnostic tests for naturally occurring emerging diseases such as SARS and West Nile encephalitis, as well as for viral and bacterial agents that might be employed by terrorists. The IT Compliance Specialist will work with other Regulatory Services Core staff, UTMB GLP program staff, and GNL and UTMB IT/IS staff, to develop implementation plans and appropriate supporting documentation for 21 CFR Part 11 and Part 58 compliant operations of an electronic document and training management system as well as all electronic and computerized laboratory equipment, systems and networks in the GNL that may be required to support GLP-compliant research activities and/or maintain compliance with other relevant regulations, such as the CDC and USDA Select Agent regulations (42 CFR Part 73, 7 CFR Part 331 and 9 CFR Part 121). It is expected that the individual recruited to fill this role will have prior experience in implementation and validation of computerized laboratory systems, networks and software applications in a regulated research environment. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field and seven years of related experience.
