For more information about the furlough program, please visit this link. http://www.calstate.edu/PA/News/2009/documents/furlough-factsheet.pdf Management Personnel Plan(MPP) Benefits Summary About the Position Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Information Security Officer/Senior Director Network Services will assume overall responsibility for the University’s central data security and privacy policies, architecture, and procedures. The ISO works with constituent groups to create, document, implement, and manage policies, procedures, and practices that ensure the availability, integrity, and privacy of the information asset on centrally managed computer systems. The ISO assists the University in its compliance with relevant information technology laws and policies. Ensures that data network communications systems for the SJSU campus and Network Operations Center services for University Computing & Telecommunication are planned, maintained and operated in keeping with the mission and strategic needs of the University. Responsibilities include, but are limited to: - Develops and implements the overall information security strategy and architecture to be used by the centrally managed systems developers and administrators. - Provides leadership and direction for all internal and external IT audit activities within the Office of the CIO. - Manages the staff assigned to Network Services responsible for firewalls and security equipment. - Plans, designs, engineers, and operates the campus security and data network and data center infrastructures. - Works with functional groups and staff in the creation of policies, procedures, or guidelines to ensure the security and privacy of information on the computer systems. - Plans and coordinates information security investigations, feasibility studies, and surveys to include cost-benefit evaluations of proposed and existing security solutions. - Provides instruction and training for users and other University employees on information security procedures and their applications.
- Serves as primary liaison between UCAT and the University Police concerning information security and privacy incidents, laws, and policies. - Maintains currency of expertise in security-related technologies, trends, issues, and solutions. - Responsible for implementation and configuration of firewalls, intrusion detection, VPN and wireless security information. - Incident response (documenting and following notification process in California).
Education and Experience
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field and a minimum of six years management level experience with enterprise networks. Individuals with equivalent combination of training, education and experience will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree desirable. - Demonstrated experience developing and managing security policy and governance. - Demonstrated experience developing and managing internal and external audits. - Knowledge and experience with ITIL principles. - Demonstrated experience (hands on) with network management security tools and/or network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls and protocols. - Security certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM & CCNA are preferred. - Experience managing staff in a large corporate or university setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of security methods, procedures and practices; English grammar, business writing, punctuation and spelling. - Demonstrated experience in network engineering, support and troubleshooting skills and experience. - Demonstrated experience with IP data networks. - Ability to resolve problems quickly and determine the root cause of problems. - Demonstrated experience in providing strategic direction leading/supervising a team.
