Description:

Duties And Responsibilities:  The Senior Grants Manager/Financial Associate will be assigned a complex grant portfolio, which includes program projects and center grants. Responsible for managing service centers and senior level faculty labs within the department, track revenues and expenses, and help manage the centers to stay within break-even point each year. Act as team lead and be a point person for junior grants managers and accounting staff, including the distribution of workflow within the department. Serve on school wide committees and provide input regarding how to improve current work processes that affect the department. Serve as principal source of information on complex fiscal policies and procedures including federal funding regulations, and advise faculty, students and junior staff on existing options or alternatives effectively recommending courses of action on fiscal matters. Accountable for the financial bottom line of department of Genetics assigned portfolio¿responsible for compliance and audit issues, budget submission, reporting, projections and accurate financial analysis. Monitor grants and contracts for Principal Investigator (PI) on a daily basis to ensure expenses are paid according to contract and government regulations within budget limit and timelines. Notify PI and supervisor about funding shortfalls and plan for contingencies. Advise faculty members on suggested grant limits based on knowledge and networking in the field. Provide guidance to the faculty about department, university and sponsored policies. Perform related duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:  Bachelors degree; 3+ years of experience in grants management; demonstrated experience with and knowledge of NIH policies and sponsored research regulations.
Additional Qualifications:  Degree in finance or accounting preferred; grants management experience at the departmental level preferred; must be self-directed, able to prioritize duties and meet multiple deadlines; use a high degree of judgment and ability to make sound independent decisions; high level of attention to detail and ability to multitask; excellent spreadsheet and database software skills required; working knowledge Harvard's financial systems preferred; strong written and oral communication skills essential; ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
