The position: This position performs application development and support for the Office of the Vice Provost. Major functional areas of responsibility include technical architecture design and development, pioneering best practices, enhances product performance, scalability, and ease of maintenance. As a member of our highly skilled technical team, you will provide the following: • Technology leadership in building web based applications and implementation of product requirements, technologies and standards. • Manage and perform project development processes through full life-cycle from conceptual stages through deployment of application. • Create and maintain database schemas and scripts. • Provide 24-hour on-call production system support as required. Abilities needed to excel in the job: • Ability to design, develop and integrate solutions. • Ability to be proactive and to work toward tight deadlines. • Ability to work independently as a project lead and with other developers as a team. • Ability to write and review technical materials. Experience needed to get the job done: • Strong in core Java language, object-oriented design and design patterns. • Architecting, designing, developing and deploying JAVA based web applications. • Working knowledge in web application technologies (servlet, JSP/JSTL, X/HTML, XML, CSS, Javascript, Ajax and web application framework - Struts framework a plus). • Proficiency with database design, SQL and data modeling skills. Oracle preferred but Sybase, SQL Server or MySQL acceptable. • 2 years minimum experience performing web server support (Apache/Tomcat/Oracle Application Server) • 2 years PL/SQL, SQL and SQL*Plus • Knowledge in any scripting language (PHP, Perl) is a plus.
