Major Function/Duties: The Server Systems Manager is responsible for all aspects of the University of Idaho's server systems team including managing a team of technical staff, physical and virtual server environments, server life-cycle management, data backup and recovery and data center planning and operation. This position works closely with clients and other ITS managers in support of the University's mission and strategic direction. In addition, this position will seek out opportunities to leverage emerging technologies to assist in reducing costs and ensuring system availability in a rapidly changing and increasingly complex computing environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field 4+ years experience with multiple server systems Previous experience managing and supervising technical staff Knowledge and Capabilities: Strong organization and communication skills; must clearly communicate technical issues and resolutions to customer/clients, other departments and senior management Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and drive completion of deliverables Strong writing and documentation skills Extensive professional level knowledge of computer operating systems to include Windows and Linux. Backup and recovery experience using best practice standards supporting SAN/NAS environments High level understanding of SAN switch requirements, TCP/IP, troubleshooting network problems with LAN connectivity In depth working knowledge of modern data network technologies, enterprise storage technologies, (SAN, NAS etc), server consolidation technologies, server virtualization technologies, directories, and disaster recovery technologies.
