Duties And Responsibilities: The Software engineer will be responsible for the development and maintenance of project databases in relation with the ImmGenHS project. Scope and develop databases to display information on research materials and results (mice, microarray datasets, analysis data and metadata). Responsible for all levels of these systems (SQL databases (typically PostgreSQL), web-service, and graphic user interfaces (typically Java or Flash-based). Scoping is performed in collaboration with other computer specialists or biologists in the lab. Strategize the development of the software elements required, in coordination with outside collaborators and other resources in the laboratory and at HMS, and overall lead the project team. Test and ensure reliability of architecture and code, optimize performance. Coordinate and participate in the actual installation and implementation of production versions of database and web servers, together with HMS IT staff. Oversee activity and performance of databases. Expand, modify and evolve the functionalities and interface of databases, in relation with biologist users. Liaise and coordinate with internal and external computer specialists (computational biology, graphics) for these developments and to handle the flow of data. This is a grant-funded position through September 30, 2011.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or a closely related field. At least three years of demonstrated experience in Java (both client- and server-side) and SQL (prefer PostgreSQL, but MySQL, Oracle, etc. will also be considered).
