Senior Education Technology Specialist
Duke Psychiatry Graduate Medical Education
 
We are seeking a specialist in education technology to lead the design, development, modification, implementation, and maintenance of information technology and social networking applications within and across the Duke University Department of Psychiatry Education Training Programs in Adult Psychiatry, Medicine / Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Geriatric Psychiatry.The Senior Education Technology Specialist works within a collaborative, team-based environment and coordinates activities with all stakeholders throughout Duke University Health System including Program Affiliates, Finance, ACGME, ABPN, and the GME Office.

 

Responsibilities
 
Provides technical and pedagogical consulting / training, and project support, to help faculty and trainees effectively integrate electronic tools and materials into their teaching / learning.
 
Evaluates and supports academic technology tools for general and discipline-specific use such as learning management systems,
social networking, multimedia and graphics tools, text analysis programs, data visualization software, lab simulation tools and specialized databases.
 
Provides training, consulting and other support for the learning management system(s) used at Duke.
 
Develops web-based information resources which enable faculty and trainees to use instructional technology successfully.
 
Works with Library staff, academic departments and technology service providers throughout the University on projects to explore new hardware and software tools, and to advocate needs and obtain resources for faculty and students which are appropriate for their academic disciplines.
 
Coordinates, develops, and organizes events and programs such as workshops, lectures, demonstrations, and training series to inform and educate faculty and trainees on trends in instructional technology, methods for effective use of technologies in teaching and learning, as well as the use of specialized tools.
 
Works with staff in other parts of the University to integrate academic technology tools into existing computing infrastructure or to help plan needed upgrades to facilities and systems.
 
Reviews professional literature; networks with instructional technology professionals outside the University; and participates in activities to stay informed about trends in instructional technology.
 
Assist in development of methodology for the ongoing performance and assessment of the residency information management system (E*Value); identify and resolve conflicts arising over the creation, control and use of data; develop and enforce database use guidelines.
 
Maintain liaison with representatives of other university E*Value data processing operations, professional organizations and other stakeholders to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.
 
Provide consultation and training sessions to E*Value users.
 
Ensure that external and internal regulations and policies governing data management are met including regulations concerning security, auditability and privacy,
 
Performs other duties as assigned or appropriate in support of Psychiatry GME activities and programs.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise work study students or other part time employees.
 
Qualifications

Education
 
Required: BA/BS or combination of relevant education and experience.
 
Experience
 
Required: The ideal candidate will have a record of innovation and creativity in identifying and integrating technological solutions to pedagogical needs • Two to five years experience in instructional technology support • Knowledge of widely-used hardware, software, applications, resources and techniques within an academic environment • Experience with Web authoring tools, Web-based collaboration environments, basic multimedia tools, and presentation software• Experience in identifying and integrating technological solutions to pedagogical needs• Experience developing and delivering training to an audience with varying levels of technical understanding• Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete instructional technology projects• Excellent time management and project management skills; demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks and use good judgment in providing services based on goals • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within an academic community• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team• Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services.
 
Preferred: Prior experience with instructional technology support within a higher education environment• Experience successfully supervising staff• Knowledge of issues related to technology facilities management• Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching• Experience with learning management systems, especially with Blackboard• Experience designing and developing Web-based instructional resources which incorporate graphics, audio and video• Technical expertise sufficient to develop or consult on development of applications.
