Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is to run and maintain the departmental server environment which supports the instruction, research, and public mission for the Chemistry Department at the University of Arizona. Solid knowledge in specialized and highly technical software packages, programming languages and computing equipment is required with a desire to interact with users within the Department in a team oriented setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Maintain functionality, integrity and security of the department servers including the operating systems and applications; administration of servers and user accounts; configuration of software and hardware; maintain network, system/application patches, and enterprise antivirus software; and general computing facilities maintenance.
* Assume responsibility for maintaining the Chemistry network functionality, including the monitoring of performance and security. Troubleshoot technical problems and coordinate efforts with CCIT-NTS as needed.
* Shared responsibilities include maintaining the readiness and functionality of the Chemistry Web, Database, and Application Servers; develop usage policies and procedures for user accounts; maintain security of the environment.
* Assume responsibility for the department server information backup strategy, including the offsite disaster recovery and business continuity.
* Implement and maintain LANDesk Management and Security Suite for hardware inventory, software license tracking system, patch management, imaging, remote desktop support and application deployment. Develop processes for maintaining currency of information as changes are made over time, for quality control, up-to-date environment status, and inventory information.
* Cross-train other members of the technical staff in the operations of the existing computing environment administrative systems (including imaging systems, software licensing tracking systems, hardware/software inventory, etc.).
* Assist with departmental administrative responsibilities including equipment scheduling; specifying and purchasing supplies and equipment for the staff, faculty and facilities; use of and reconciliation of individual purchasing card, communicating with the members of the department staff regarding capabilities, status, and changes; setting up and managing user accounts and storage space.
* Provide training to the staff in the use of new equipment, applications and utilities introduced in the environment.
* Write, update and/or review policies and procedures in accordance with the Campus Information Security Policy.
* Coordinate activities of and supervise student technical assistants.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field AND four years of systems and/or programming experience; OR, Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field AND three years of systems and/or programming experience; OR, five years of systems and/or programming experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:
* Ability to work as part of a team environment..
* Self motivation and time management skills.
* Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
* Ability to continuously develop knowledge and skills related to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Demonstrable experience working in a team environment; excellent skill in oral and written communication.
* Strong experience with network management, including troubleshooting TCP/IP, DHCP, and network connectivity issues; experience with multicasting and Internet communication protocols, including firewall security.
* Excellent working knowledge of Windows Intel-based networking environments including two years experience managing multiple Microsoft Windows Servers (2000/2003) including IIS and SQL 2000/2005 in one or more domains; experience with hardware maintenance and upgrades for Windows systems.
* Hardware and system software technical experience including a strong working knowledge of desktop systems (Windows 2000/XP, Mac OS X) and application packages such as Microsoft Office Suite, Macromedia Studio MX, ColdFusion MX, Apache, MySQL, Meeting Maker and Dreamweaver.
* Working knowledge/experience with LANDesk Management and Security Suite.
* Experience with a variety of A/V presentation equipment and related technologies.
* Experience supervising student and/or other employees.
* Experience in computer-mediated instructional environments, preferably in higher education.
* Knowledge of collaborative writing and communication applications such as Desire2Learn, WebCT and Tegrity server.
* Some experience in computer programming, script development, and/or web-application development.
