We are looking for a talented Senior Solaris Systems Administrator to assist in planning and expanding the university's portal and administrative application infrastructure. The position will be responsible for architecting, planning, implementing and managing a clustered 24/7 campus-wide application web presence. The server environment is undergoing dramatic change as the university transforms its legacy IBM mainframe-based systems to a J2EE/Solaris/Windows environment. Much more than a maintenance position, this opportunity involves major upgrades of hardware, operating systems, and database platforms, SAN administration, capacity planning, performance tuning, as well as long-term strategic planning. Attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, capacity to plan, ability to execute, and a commitment to excellence are required. Participation in Higher-Ed conferences, such as Educause, is highly encouraged and provides opportunities for travel.
