Information Technology Services is seeking a talented Unix/Linux/Vmware System Administrator to join the technical team responsible for the University’s enterprise virtualization infrastructure, email, web, and other critical Unix and Linux servers.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

·         Ensure performance, reliability and security on the University's enterprise Unix, Linux and Vmware ESX systems, including web, email, application servers, and load balancers.

·         Install, configure, document and maintain Unix and Linux operating systems, Vmware ESX infrastructure, applications and system management tools.

·         Provide performance tuning, capacity planning, automation and documentation for systems and applications.  

·         Collaborate as a knowledge leader with developers, database administrators, service providers and data center operations staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required: Bachelor's degree plus six years experience supporting production Unix systems in a 24/7/365 environment.  Extensive knowledge of and experience with Unix operating systems, utilities, tools and applications.  Demonstrated ability to write scripts in Shell, Perl or other administrative scripting languages. Demonstrated ability to develop and document complex procedures.

 

Preferred: Production Linux experience; experience managing a multiple Unix platform environment; experience with automated install and configuration management systems such as Cfengine and Kickstart; experience with server virtualization, load-balancing and clustering technologies; experience with Vmware ESX 3, DRS, HA, Vmotion, and related tools; experience with Sendmail,  Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, Bind, Horde, MIMEDefang, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, OpenLDAP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, F5 Load Balancers,Tripwire, Nagios.
