This position will build and maintain Sun servers and storage to support mission-critical services for the University community. This will include infrastructure-related applications and collaboration services, such as an enterprise directory (LDAP), DNS, email (IMAP), message transfer (SMTP) gateways with anti-virus and spam filtering, etc., as well as integration of new hardware and software into this framework. Other Responsibilities System Development and Maintenance - Design and implement new systems and upgrade with data migration to existing ones - Design and implement failover strategy for mission-critical systems - Ensure high availability for mission-critical systems - Carry out quality assurance testing - Maintain and monitor system-level security - Diagnose and resolve system infrastructure and related application issues - Participate in planning projects relating to system and portal infrastructure - Execute tasks and duties that align with project goals and timelines - Design and implement preventive maintenance procedures - Update and maintain documentation for system operating procedures - Participate in proposing new projects and enhancements - Act as system-level technical support Other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor's degree in a subject area related to computer science or engineering field. Experience may substitute for field of study. Two or more years of experience in a related job field running production systems. Demonstrated ability to be a productive member of a project team. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and perform research for solutions as needed. Experience providing operational support for high availability, mission-critical systems. Current knowledge of server infrastructure technology and awareness of trends in the industry. Experience with Solaris and/or Linux system administration. Experience with Sun hardware, EMC storage, and backup devices. Experience in black box debugging skills. Knowledge in software setup, incl. open source (BIND, sendmail, postfix, mailman, etc.), SunONE/Java System products, TrendMicro and/or Sophos products, Veritas products, etc.. Knowledge of web security and SSL certificates. Familiarity of internet protocols and TCP/IP networking. |
