NCSA Visiting Research Programmer (A0910060) The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Visiting Research Programmer position available. The Visiting Research Programmer will design, develop, and support secure systems for NCSA's user communities and for projects with which NCSA is collaborating. Secure systems include a range of potential cyberinfrastructure projects either focused on security or having unique security requirements. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing new solutions and integrating existing software and for providing documentation and support to the users of developed solutions. Required Education, Training and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field required. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA technologies).
- Proficient programming skills in at least one major programming/scripting language (e.g. C, Java, Python).
- Experience with software engineering tools (e.g. Bugzilla, CVS, SVN).
Preferred Experience:
- Two or more years work experience in the area of software development.
- Experience with and demonstrated understanding of cybersecurity standards or technologies (e.g. PKI, SAML, SSL).
- Demonstrated ability to write technical and user-focused documentation.
- Software engineering experience, including software development, release management, documentation, system testing and user support.
- Experience with software debugging tools (e.g. GDB).
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of web-based applications.
- Experience using Internet-based collaboration tools (e.g. wikis, IM).
This is a visiting academic professional position (covered by a collective bargaining agreement) at NCSA and is a renewable 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits (may become permanent at a later date). Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.
