Under the general supervision of the Director of University Web Communications and coordinating closely with college and/or department leadership, the Web Coordinator helps ensure the effective application of the university’s internal and external communication and branding strategies to the Web. As such the Web Coordinator plays an integral role in the success of the marketing and communication efforts of the University of Idaho, and provides guidance and support in the effective use of Web technologies to serve both the administrative and academic environments of the university. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide support and assistance to the colleges and/or departments by: (40%, Essential) • Providing consistent management of college and/or department Web sites including branding, content, visual and navigational effectiveness, etc.; managing customer-facing Web properties focusing particularly on content management, maintenance, and updates. Creating and developing additional content and Web sites to ensure an engaging and effective user experience. • Working with college and/or departmental leadership in prioritizing and acting upon requests to ensure the college and/or department Web needs are effectively and consistently met in a timely manner. • Preparing Web features, personality profiles, news stories, guides, and related content (including photography and video) for purpose of recruitment, retention, public and alumni relations in concert with college resources. • Repurposing existing marketing and communications materials for Web delivery. • Facilitating the ongoing maintenance and optimization of all Web properties within the organization. • Establishing and maintain Web publishing practices and training for Web Authors – the content contributors within the college and departments who provide day-to-day updates and maintenance of site content. • Maintaining Content Management System (CMS) permissions and templates for colleges and/or departments. • Working with Director of Web Communications and other Web Coordinators to design, plan, and implement projects concerned with Internet and Intranet applications that service the student body, faculty, and administrative offices. • Serving as a resource for institutional, departmental, and organizational use of the Web in support of their missions, goals, and activities. • Providing consultation and communications on Web guidelines, technologies, policies, and other relevant materials. • Seeking information for improving Web content. • Working with college and/or departmental leadership to establish protocols and procedures for updating web content. Provide consultation and management regarding college and department Web presence by: (30%, Essential) • Encouraging consistent university branding, messaging and user experience for college and/or department’s online presence; ensure that content, function and visual integrity of the Web presence is maintained consistently; ensuring Web sites are developed, as appropriate, in coordination with college recruitment and development activities; implement policies with respect to Web appearance and functional standards and ensure compliance with standards/policies. • Working with college and/or department leadership, marketing/development staff and Director of Web Communications to identify, design and implement Web enhancements in support of the university’s Web Strategy and Strategic Plan. • Making recommendations to Director of Web Communications regarding short and long-term project priorities concerned with college and department Web sites. • Establishing unit goals, priorities and operating policies, procedures and standards in collaboration with Director of Web Communications and college’s and/or department’s leadership. • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of new technologies, trends and best practices in order to identify areas for future development and enhancement. Manage and evaluate systems to enhance the campus Web services by: (15%, Essential) • Evaluating the effectiveness, usability, and accessibility of college and department Web sites using Web metrics and other performance measures; identifying needs and make recommendations for enhancements to Web sites overall effectiveness. • Researching and identify opportunities to enhance content for both user engagement and search engine optimization as well as related content on third-party Web sites external to the University. • Engaging with faculty, staff, and student participation in recommending and reviewing Web services, policies and procedures as well as content and organization. • Working with the University’s Lead Web Analyst to develop and analyze reports regarding effectiveness of Web sites; identify needs and make changes to increase effectiveness of the Web site. Optimize customer satisfaction through collaborative team work and strong commitment to customer service by: (10%, Essential) • Engaging in collaborative problem-solving with ITS and other Web Coordinators to ensure that the customer needs of the university are met, the integrity and quality of the university Web presence are maintained, and there is continuous and consistent improvement of Web sites. • Monitoring legal, privacy, and security concerns related to use of the public-facing Internet and internal Web presence. • Fostering an atmosphere of collaborative problem solving with colleges/departments and faculty, staff, students, and administrators to ensure the Web needs of the university are met. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field plus at least 1 year of related experience OR equivalent combination of related education and/or experience totaling approximately 5 years. • Basic knowledge of Web visual design, navigation, content creation and usability. Must be able to provide examples of completed Web sites that reflect both this knowledge and a hands-on role in the creation process. • Ability to set priorities, accomplish objectives in a timely manner, and manage several projects at once. • Established record of collaboration and good interpersonal and communicational skills with diverse internal and external constituents. • Proven organizational skills ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: • Project management and inter-departmental management skills with an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and identifying solutions.. • Communications and/or marketing experience, preferably in higher education. • Experience creating Web-based marketing materials in a branded, integrated marketing focused environment. • Proficiency in Web graphics creation software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. • Experience creating Web sites in a Content Management System (CMS) or Web development tool such as Dreamweaver, Web Expressions or FrontPage using HTML/CSS. • Working knowledge of additional web technologies including: JavaScript, ASP.NET, XML, Flash, and QuickTime. • Working knowledge of search engine optimization, Web analytics and Web marketing principles. • Experience with Google Analytics and other Web analytics tools/software.
