Swem Library at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia seeks applicants for the position of Web Programmer. The incumbent will develop, maintain, and facilitate web access to library resources, applications, systems, and services. For reference, the position number is 00081W. Required Qualifications: Excellent organization, project management, and communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical users. Knowledge of assessment, systems analysis, design, life-cycle project development, and usability. Knowledge of web tools, scripting languages, and web application design software. Knowledge of database design and implementation, web standards, and CSS. Knowledge of operating systems, programming languages, and information architecture development. Previous experience as a Programmer/Analyst supporting web applications and relational databases or a combination of education and experience. Experience with client/server and web computing environments. Experience using scripting languages, SQL databases, web standards, and CSS. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field and experience in a higher education environment. Experience using multiple operating systems (e.g., Windows/Linux/Unix/Mac), software/programming languages (e.g. PHP,Java, Perl), and SQL database implementations (MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL). Experience with library applications such as EZProxy, ILLiad, Archon, DSpace, Sirsi/Dynix or other integrated library system. Experience with usability assessment and accessibility guidelines. Experience with content management systems. Experience integrating Web 2.0 and other social media tools into web applications to extend functionality. Experience training novice to advanced users in varied settings (classroom, small group, one-on-one). |
