The mission of the Campus Cyberinfrastructure (CCI) working group is to help educational institutions develop institutional strategies and plan their resource deployment in this emerging and evolving technological landscape and to help their users harness and optimize the power and capabilities of these new integrated IT tools and systems for educational and research applications in higher education. Come share your ideas, learn about various networking community CI projects, and hear what the CCI working group is doing to address issues identified in the " Building the Campus Cyberinfrastructure Roadmap" and how their efforts tie into the overall EDUCAUSE grand challenges cyberinfrastructure initiative.

Converged Communications (CCWG)

In the spirit of convergence, the former Wireless Networking and Integrated Communications Strategies working groups have merged and will be once again holding their all day meeting as the Converged Communications working group (CCWG). Please join us to discuss some exciting topics in the realm of convergence and mobility such as Duke University's pilot wireless network project (using 802.11n) that affords up to five times the performance of traditional wireless networks. And what about IPvideo? Is there anything happening in the WiMAX space? And now that convergence is real, what about "presence" and privacy? Come prepared to share your questions and your experiences.

Identity Management (IDM)

Identity management is moving ahead rapidly. Shibboleth and InCommon are making great strides. Representatives from the banking and credit card industries are sitting around the table with federal and state government agencies in the Electronic Identity Assurance Expert Group (EIAEG) within the Liberty Alliance. The Credential Assessment Framework, developed by NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is being applied to an expanding federation of public and private institutions, including a number of campuses. The Identity Management working group will review these and other current activities of interest and chart a path for future action.

Network Policy Council (NPC)

The Network Policy Council will hold an open meeting to review policy and networking issues of interest to the community including developments in network neutrality, the recent 700 MHz auction, the Universal Service Fund, and P2P file sharing. This session will discuss the valuable role of the higher education technology community as activists and the impact coordinated efforts can have on potential legislation and regulations. In previous NPC open meetings we have also discussed both recent and currently evolving issues in Washington (for example, CALEA and the Reid Amendment) and the decisive role higher education played.

StateNets

The StateNets working group provides a forum for managers and executives in state education and research networks and their higher education partners to learn from each other how to better serve their customers and to deal more effectively with their policy and technical challenges. StateNets participants will gauge the working group’s progress since the StateNets CEO Strategic Workshop last June and help define new, relevant projects. StateNets focus groups will provide updates on their work, representatives from new state education networks will introduce themselves, and we will be briefed on the latest community and federal policy issues.
