Academic Experience
Question 1.1 Details

How does the campus use technology to enhance teaching, learning, and access to information in your areas of interest? Examples include online syllabi, Web-based discussion groups and project teams, and electronic portfolios.

Technology affects how you learn and how teachers teach. Faculty are increasingly using electronic means to actively engage you in the learning process, to develop your critical thinking skills, and to allow you to experience diverse approaches to course material. The phenomenon of "e-learning"-often described as distributed learning or anywhere, anytime learning-has been steadily growing as both an alternative to and an enhancement of traditional classroom Instruction.

While there is healthy discussion and debate going on about what forms of and how much instructional technology is right for students, in particular courses and disciplines and at specific institutions, the use of instructional technology in higher education is clearly on the rise. You should be aware of how it is being used to enhance the academic experience at schools you are considering and in particular in the areas you are considering studying.
