What kind of help does the library provide for research assistance, and when is the help available?
With popular Internet search tools like Google and Yahoo, it's not surprising how many college students rarely, if ever, find their way to and use their school's library services, either inperson or online. But make no mistake, it can be risky and timewasting to rely on popular search engines to find quality resources for course projects and papers. Just as technology keeps advancing, so have the sophistication (and ease of use) of research tools, online databases, and information resources that can only be found through campus libraries.
Libraries continue to enhance their services to patrons, both those on campus and those working at a distance. Find out the main library's (and any branches') hours of operation. During those hours as well as extended hours, when can you ask information/reference questions-in person, on the phone, and by email? For email services, how soon can you expect a response? Does the library offer inperson or online tours and tutorials on using its services? What selfhelp and smartreference services are available online? Are these available 24 hours a day?
