Abstract:

The Western Kentucky University (WKU) Office of Distance Learning was created in 2000 to provide faculty teaching online courses with resources to improve the content of their courses. In 2003, as part of this effort, WKU adopted Tegrity, a multimedia platform that allows faculty to record online lectures by adding an audio/video component along with other interactive tools. The first problem we faced in this platform was accessibility. In 2006, we modified the Tegrity system to provide synchronized transcripts (captioning), making the audio/video more accessible.
