Abstract:Jeffrey von Munkwitz-Smith analyzed Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for student information systems from 12 institutions. The results of his comparison showed that the institutions' RFPs' varied significantly in the degree of detail. This paper highlights differences between the institutions' approaches, and also suggests using written scenarios to approach the RFP process. The author provides examples of how his institution created a Request for Information for a student information system by listing desirable system characteristics and writing scenarios describing the way they wanted processing to take place in the future.
