Abstract:The University of Florida provides access to assistive technology software for persons with disabilities from any microcomputer in any public lab on campus, and the means to get there. This paper describes the cooperative effort between the Center for Instructional and Research Computing Activities and the Office of Students with Disabilities to deliver assistive technology to students with various disabilities through the: Definition of the Need, The Interdepartmental Cooperation, Computer Solution to the Needs, and Future Directions. It looks at a creative cooperative intra-campus venture designed to provide the means, as mandated by the federal government, for students, staff, and faculty to have equal access to the university computer network, regardless of disabilities.
