Many colleges and universities have begun experimenting with tablet computers and iPad classroom integration initiatives that vary from campus-wide distributions to small-scale, single-class pilots. These programs are designed to provide evidence of improved student learning and engagement. • The Pearson Foundation Survey on Students and Tablet, The Pearson Foundation, 2012. This survey, in it's second year, found tablet ownership in college and college-bound students has tripled in just a year.
• The Horizon Report in Action: Emerging Technologies Today and Tomorrow, EDUCAUSE Live!, 2012.  This webinar discusses emerging technologies from the 2012 Horizon Report, including the use of tablets in higher education.
• How Are Students Actually Using IT? An Ethnographic Study, ECAR Research Report, November 2011. This report examines learning management system usage and satisfaction, student ownership and use of technology devices (especially mobile devices), and where on campus students choose to compute.
• iPad Pilot Project: Lessons Learned at a Liberal Arts College, EDUCAUSE 2011. This session highlighted the successes and challenges of faculty and support staff for an iPad pilot at a small liberal arts college.
• The iPad: Implications for Higher Education, EDUCAUSE 2011. The University of San Francisco implemented a six-month iPad study including 40 faculty with the intention of reviewing, experimenting with, and sharing its potential uses in higher education. This annual conference session show cased the study's findings as well as recommendations and future directions for the iPad and tablet computing in general.
• Mobile Perspectives: On E-Books—E-Reading: The Transition in Higher Education,EDUCAUSE Review, April 2011. The authors describe the Seton Hill University Griffin Technology Advantage, a mobile learning program that began in spring 2010 when the university decided to provide iPads to all full-time students for the coming fall.
• The Educational Potential of Mobile Computing in the Field, EDUCAUSE Quarterly, March 2011. This article describes how giving students hands-on experience of fieldwork with mobile tablet PCs loaded with visualization software facilitates active learning and integration of complex information and concepts.
• 7 Things You Should Know About iPad Apps for Learning, ELI, February 2011. Applications designed for the iPad offer interactive content that takes advantage of touch-screen navigation. The iPad combines robust computational functionality with a screen large enough to serve as a legitimate replacement for printed textbooks and other course materials.
• Leveraging the Interplay Between a Grassroots Pen-Based Computing Pilot and an Institutional Laptop Initiative, EDUCAUSE Quarterly, December 2009. A decade-long case study involving mobile and pen computing at DePauw University demonstrates the synergy possible from simultaneously supporting grassroots initiatives and institutional programs.
