Abstract:

Most colleges produce reports and regularly publish a magazine to keep their alums up-to-date on news, events, and issues. Production and mailing time impact the timeliness of these journals, and printing and mailing costs often limit visual appeal and content depth.

Due to the widespread affordability of computers and Internet access, the Web has become the de facto tool for delivering timely information. The Web provides the opportunity to transcend text and visual images through e-mail interaction and access to audio and video materials, with the convenience of anytime access.

The downside of using the Internet for news delivery is Web production, which can be both time consuming and costly. Content development staff must depend on in-house or contracted Web developers for design services and site updates. The process of posting timely information is often impeded and lacks immediacy. To address these issues, the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy developed NewsManager, a tool that allows authorized content administrators to update Web page information directly.
