Security in Outsourcing ASP and Hosted Solutions

Oakland University has experienced an increase in outsourced solutions being presented and considered. Many of these solutions are application service provider or hosted solutions where the vendor provides hardware, software and data management at the vendor's facility. The possibilities of what could go wrong, particularly with security implementations, are not often considered. ASP and hosted solutions are often seen as a low cost way to get a problem out of the way, and once the contract is in the drawer, all review stops.
