Abstract:This paper describes Stanford Online, an initiative in making distance learning opportunities available via the Internet. The Stanford Instructional Television Network (SITN) has provided graduate engineering education to working professionals in more than 300 corporations via television broadcast, two-way video, and videotape. Now a subset of the SITN schedule is available via the Internet through Stanford Online. This paper discusses the technologies Stanford Online utilizes and reports on student and faculty reactions to the program.
