Abstract:Affordable access to higher education is linked to the economy. The decline over the past decade in the share of the state budget going to higher education means that a reduction in overall state spending has an even more disastrous impact on colleges and universities that was previously the case. This article discusses the ramifications for high performing students from low income backgrounds and the issues surrounding universal access to higher education.
