Abstract:The principles and business practices of reengineering and other change management strategies have been around for decades. More recently, practitioners have stressed the central role of information resource management and information technology enablement in achieving institutional reengineering objectives. This paper takes an "in the trenches" view of these efforts, considering project management, change team composition, process modeling, and the performance metrics for both customer service enhancement and operating cost reduction. The paper then considers in some detail the use of various collaborative I/T tools, including electronic mail, electronic conferencing, and workflow-enablement software, as an integral part of these activities.
