The goal of the RFI was to identify and document the range of available technologies and services that might be considered by universities and colleges to address issues such as bandwidth allocation and the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material on peer–to–peer systems on the campus network.

The following companies responded to the first Request for Information sent out by the Technology Task Force of the Joint Committee of the Higher Education and Entertainment Communities. The Task Force received a number of extensive responses from members of the technology community, both large and small. Each submission was summarized by a team of volunteers representing both higher education and the corporate world.

Please note that the summaries reflect only the content of the proposals submitted by the vendors. There was no attempt to test or verify the statements in the proposals or to evaluate the effectiveness of one solution versus another. Colleges and universities must make their own judgments about which types of services that they may wish to use in their own environment and work directly with the vendors if they wish to proceed.
