The Rise of Collaborative ToolsSpecial Guest
Dr. Ken Klingenstein is Project Director of the Internet2 Middleware Initiative. He coordinates activities intended to build an interoperable middleware infrastructure among I2 members that will glue next generation applications to network capacities and enable inter-institutional resource sharing. Ken is on loan to Internet2 from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was Director of Information Technology Services for 14 years, and continues to serve as Chief Technologist for the campus. More > > SummaryYour host, Steve Worona, will be joined by Ken Klingenstein and the topic will be "The Rise of Collaborative Tools" With many campuses now settling into the deployment and enhancement of core middleware, rich opportunities exist to leverage this infrastructure and enable collaborative applications. Activities are already underway to develop new, open-source tools in Web services, desktop video, peer-to-peer file sharing, list processors, calendars, and other areas that use this emergent infrastructure. This session will review the requirements for collaborative applications and discuss the status of the more promising tools and how campuses can prepare to use them. Related EDUCAUSE Resources
