Two Medical Schools Implement EMPOWER Student Information System

EMPOWER provides special student information system functions that meet the unique needs of medical schools.

BINGHAM FARMS, MI —December 18, 2013—Western Michigan University School of Medicine (WMed) and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine have implemented the EMPOWER Student Information System to manage their student bodies through each of their unique medical education processes.

EMPOWER can be used by itself or as a front-end supplement to a university-wide system to meet the special needs of medical schools, such as direct AMCAS application processing, narrative grading for inclusion in MSPE, flexible scheduling for clerkships and a student at-risk early warning system. EMPOWER is parameter and rules driven, allowing it to be configured for a medical school’s unique environment and updates in business and academic rules, policies and procedures can all be easily implemented without the need for programming changes.

At WMed, EMPOWER will welcome the school’s inaugural class of students in fall 2014.

“As a new medical school we were looking for an integrated solution for managing individuals as they moved from applicants to students to alumni,” said Hal B. Jenson, MD, founding dean of Western Michigan University School of Medicine. “EMPOWER offered us a comprehensive solution that was able to be customized to meet the needs of our medical school.”

“Because it can be easily configured to suit any particular institution’s unique needs, EMPOWER is a natural fit for medical schools,” said EMPOWER President Robert Brender. “We are very excited to welcome WMed and SIU School of Medicine to the growing list of medical schools using EMPOWER.”

At SIU School of Medicine, EMPOWER will help manage hundreds of medical students.
