2:30 PM - 3:20 PM
Meeting Room 114
Eastern Time
Join us for a lively discussion of the latest developments in legal issues surrounding IT outsourcing and the use of third parties to provide electronic tools and services for use by faculty, staff, and students. We will examine major IT services being outsourced (including faculty, staff, and student e-mail); legal challenges presented by outsourcing generally and by certain common terms offered by third-party providers, including the latest version of the Google Apps agreement and the impact of declining that agreement on existing Gmail or other Google services; institutional experiences with negotiating contract terms, including current developments in joint negotiations for outsourcing of IT services using the Common Solutions Group/NACUA model outsourcing RFP and agreement; some practical suggestions for moving forward while meeting our compliance obligations and minimizing risk; and the prospects for the development of a higher education "cloud" for shared IT functions and capacity.

Excellent session by Steve McDonald and Josh Dermott: Great advice on Cloud contract challenges #E11_FS13

"Legal counsel is not the office of 'no'". Contracts and the cloud... #EDU11 #E11_FS13 and neither is the office of the CIO

Google recently modified its apps for education agreement to allow it to modify the agreement "from time to time". uh-oh #E11_FS13 #EDU11

RT @red_miller: Google recently modified its apps for education agreement to allow it to modify the agreement "from time to time". uh-oh #E11_FS13 #EDU11

#E11_FS13 "they have to promise that they own what they are selling to you"

#E11_FS13 Make the vendor responsible for the things you are responsible for...and get it in the contract.

#E11_FS13 If your contract is "organic"....so is compost. Love it. #edu11

#E11_FS13 Free is a point on the spectrum of price.

#E11_FS13 Steven McDonald is super-clear. I need to take this ppt with me for sharing. #edu11
