Leadership Award Nomination Requirements, Submission Procedure, and Form

Guidelines and Eligibility

  • Candidates must be or have been contributing members of our professional community, directly associated with managing information technology and resources in higher education, and individuals who have made significant and demonstrable contributions to the field.
  • Candidates may not be currently serving on the EDUCAUSE Board, staff, or Recognition Committee.
  • Anyone, within or outside of higher education, may submit nominations for the award.
  • Awards will be made at the discretion of the Recognition Committee, which may choose to grant no award or multiple awards in any one year.
  • Each candidate will be judged on three primary factors:
    • Leadership in the institution or institutions where they have been employed,
    • Leadership in  EDUCAUSE, and
    • Leadership in the profession
  • In addition the Recognition Committee will also look for evidence that supports:
    • Evidence of leadership in the efficient and effective practice of supporting and using technology
    • Evidence of leadership in the management of IT resources
    • Evidence of leadership in professional development
    • Evidence of leadership effecting change within an organization or institution
    • Evidence of leadership in creating new knowledge and/or in collaborative scholarly work

Nomination Requirements

Anyone may submit a nomination for the Leadership Award with the candidate’s permission.  Nominations must clearly document why the candidate should be considered, above all others, for this distinguished award.  All nominations must contain sufficient information to inform the selection process without additional research. Each nomination submitted must adhere to the following outline and page counts.

  1. Leadership in the institution or institutions where they have been employed
    (two single-spaced pages minimum)
    Summarize the institutions served and positions held. Describe in detail the candidate’s IT-related projects, initiatives, and achievements at these institutions that qualify the candidate for this award. Describe the candidate’s leadership characteristics, mentoring, or other leadership activities, the positive outcomes the candidate achieved in these positions, and the impact of the above on the candidate’s institution(s). In what ways did the candidate advance information technology as an effective tool to create advantage for his or her institution(s)?
  2. Leadership in EDUCAUSE
    (one single-spaced page minimum)
    Describe the candidate’s service to EDUCAUSE, including committee service (member and/or chair), publications, presentations, volunteer service, and Board positions held, if any.  Describe any special achievements or recognitions.
  3. Leadership in the profession
    (one single-spaced page minimum)
    Describe in detail the publications, presentations, grants, patents, significant non-EDUCAUSE committee or organizational service or other meaningful contributions to the profession of information technology in higher education not described above.
  4. References
    Include a minimum of three letters of reference for the candidate from current or former colleagues, employers, editors, or associates. The letters should focus on the candidate’s leadership ability, vision, professional skills, and accomplishments.
  5. Curriculum Vitae or Resume
    Include with the nomination the candidate’s vitae or professional resume to provide the selection committee with a more comprehensive overview of the candidate’s accomplishments and experiences. Please note the CV or resume is not a substitute for any of the required information listed in the items above.

  2. Review Leadership Award nomination requirements.

  4. Be sure you have an EDUCAUSE profile (username/password) to access the nomination form. (Note: this may take up to 24 hours to generate.) 
  5. Submit nomination and materials via Leadership Award Nomination Form.
