WaSP Going after ScriptingCreated by Kyle Johnson (Guilford College) on July 19, 2005
The Web Standards Project folks have set their sites on more standards for client side scripting. All I can say is, THANK YOU! Client side scripting compatibility is such a pain that we mostly do everything in PHP, have the server do the processing, and only send the client XHTML. That strategy isn't that fun either, but it's easier than trying to figure out why a Javascript runs differently on Safari then it does on IE. And scripting i ncompatibilities tend to be the big reasons sites don't work on non-monopoloy browsers. My bank has a stupid javascript that submits a transfer that doesn't work on the Mac. The sad thing is that all that script does is submit the request to another page (and probably do some error checking). When something that basic isn't cross platform you know you're in trouble. So here's hoping WaSP can do something to help both those of us that develop sites as well as those of us who use them.
