IntroductionCreated by Steve Udick (University of Oklahoma) on February 17, 2005
My name is Steve Udick, and I am a 25 year old Consultant for the IT Professional Services of the University of Oklahoma. I was born in PA, filled a passport before I was 8, then settled down to only state-side moves. The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences working inside the Higher Education market. Specifically, I am writing this to further my education, as I hope people out there will read and comment on my blog. Also, as I am a firm believer in the work smarter not harder rule, I think that posting some situations and issues I have faced may help someone that may run into the same ones down the line, and therefore save someone time in problem solving. A little about my current situation. Right now, I am performing a mixed group of tasks. They go from selling solutions (desktop support, firewall, advanced IT services) to different academic and administrative departments inside the university to product development and management. I am currently working on analyizing the profitability and feasibility of fully adopting some classroom technology, finding ways to increase margin on current product lines, and always looking for opportunities to turn a one-time sales solution into a product line to sell en mass. In this blog, I will not only talk about some strategies and tactics, but discuss and document some of my guiding principles and practices. In an effort to professionally develop, I understand the value of peers, and whole-heartedly request that anyone reading this comment, correct, or suggest to me thinks that you, as the reader and third party recognize or have been through and may be benefical to me. Stay tuned for the next edition; the topic will be either "Product Knowledge is Power," or my basic business principles.
