Blackboard and WebCT mergeCreated by Stuart Yeates (University of Oxford) on October 13, 2005
Blackboard and WebCT are to merge. From an econimic point of view, this makes little sense unless they no longer see each other as key rivals. Do they now both see Moodle as their key rival? Or Bodington? As featured on /.

Stewart, I have to say, I was disappointed when I heard the news. I have used Blackboard for several years, but also have considered not only WebCT, but also Moodle, and Desire2Learn. Normally, less conpetition is NOT a good thing. It causes companies to charge insane prices and be overconfident in the market.I will be very interested to see what happens with this merger. Suppposedly both products will continue to be supported, but for how long is anyone's guess. The two companies combined held 80% of the market. I'm not saying that I think either product is not a good product; however, there are some open source models out there which can give them both a real good run for their money (or rather...I guess for OUR money).
