Has CC lost the plot?

Recently the free culture movement celebrated a (somewhat arbitrary) first birthday. To celebrate CC had a bit of bash, which involved licensing the rights to the song "happy birthday" (which turns out to still be under copyright) and having all the staffers and leading lights record a version.

Unfortunately it was released under a restrictive CC licence: the licensing agreement requires CC to pay 8.5 cents per download and do not permit redistribution.
