Wikipedia very close to one million users and one million articles

Created by Stuart Yeates (University of Oxford) on February 27, 2006

English language Wikipedia is just a few thousand away from twin milestones, the million user mark and the million page mark. A special statistics page is keeping track.

This says nothing about the quality of the contributions of the users, nor about the quality of the pages over all, of course.

The accompanying image, from http://www.alexa.com/ shows a spike in Wikipedia page views. The huge leap starting in December 2005 appears to be due to a wave of media coverage, driving new users to the websites. It seems that any press really is good press.
