The Future of BloggingCreated by Catherine Howell (La Trobe University) on February 16, 2006
Plumage from Pegasus, by steampunk maestro Paul Di Filippo. I HAD TO run a few errands downtown, but I hesitated to go. What if I ran into bloggers? Well, my first experience of meeting other bloggers was entirely positive. Still, there was something slightly hallucinatory about the experience. Having reflected on this a bit, I think the strangeness lay not the fact of meeting people face-to-face, when we had a prior social and intellectual connection online (after all, this is not so different from 19th century letter-writers finally meeting up with their correspondents). What was strange was the speed with which our offline interaction was documented, editorialised, and re-presented online. Suddenly our offline meeting had a doppelganger: its online presence or artefacts. Thanks to Nick Caldwell for the lovely Di Flippo snippet.
