This twelve-minute podcast features a conversation with Shimizu Yasutaka, President of the National Institute of Multimedia Education (NIME) in Japan. This interview was recorded at the EDUCAUSE 2008 Annual Conference. Our conversation host is John E. Bucher, Chief Technology Officer at Oberlin College. The mission of NIME is to carry out R&D and dissemination relating to education that utilizes advanced information technologies and to provide support for universities and colleges. NIME's R&D emphasizes the important field of e-learning and the improvement of the online learning environment.NIME also conducts R&D in the areas of collaborative systems, learning content and digital learning resources, faculty development, multimedia environments, the application of multimedia technology, surveying, and international research. NIME contributes to national policy-making by undertaking surveys, research, and collaborative studies commissioned by the government.
