Podcast: Bill Allison on Breaking Through the Barriers to Enterprise StandardizationCreated by Gerry Bayne (EDUCAUSE) on June 24, 2011
Project sponsors of major ERP implementations try to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency by making a strong push for "vanilla." In Berkeley's case, this meant taking the implementation from 1,500 unique customizations to about 40. Although the implementations may be successful by many measures, campus users (who ultimately render the most important verdicts) can disagree and struggle to complete their work. In this interview with Bill Allison, Director of Campus Technology Services at UC Berkeley, we discuss the lessons of their ERP rollout, which is now informing changes to enterprise architecture, business analysis, campus change management, and the organization itself.
