This podcast features an interview with Michael Hites, Associate Vice President of Administrative Information Technology Services (AITS) at the University of Illinois Central Administration. The session referenced in this podcast, "Time for an Upgrade of IT Governance," was given at the EDUCAUSE 2009 Enterprise Conference. Four years after adopting an inclusive IT governance and prioritization process, University of Illinois Central Administration completed 240 projects, spending $10.6 million and expending over 500,000 hours. To maximize prioritization efficiency and collaboration, they conducted a formal review to evaluate the success of the process and provide recommendations for changes. While the successes showed vast improvement, there were criticisms. By interviewing 65 critical leaders and end users, they charted an honest diagnosis and detailed prescription for improvements. This interview describes the history of the university's governance, best practices in project prioritization, cultural concerns, and how the process has evolved to create a collegial and transparent method for prioritization.
