Macromedia now Adobe??Created by Lorie Mitchell (New Mexico State University at Carlsbad) on December 6, 2005
Can I just say UGH. I never wanted to see this day happen. Macromedia and Adobe are now one... and Adobe came out on top. Macromedia's website now says, "Adobe, formerly Macromedia." A press release has been posted on Adobe's website: Adobe Press Release With this merger will, of course, come changes to my favorite software packages, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Captivate. I know there's nothing that says the changes will be negative, but there is nothing that says they will be positive. I've always been so impressed with Macromedia's customer support and service...I love that I can write in to their wish list and have actual input into the next version of the product. Whatcha wanna bet that input will be taken away? I love PhotoShop, too, and I have taught PageMaker and InDesign, which are all terrific products, but they aren't user-friendly and really intimidate the common user...like my faculty. Now I foresee Macromedia products getting more difficult to use...and they were finally becoming less intimidating! Their user interface has gone through so many changes that benefit the user. I tried to use Adobe's GoLive one time and threw up my hands in confusion and frustration. With Dreamweaver, I was able to sit down and start using it immediately.
I guess I will try to look at this as a positive... and hope they finally create a Captivate for us Mac users. Adobe??? How about it?

Adobe has a great track record for publishing file formats and languages as open standards (think PostScript and PDF), whereas Macromedia has a dreadful track record.
I can't say I actually use either of their products, but I do use PDFs.
