Training as opposed to Teaching

Created by Matt Morton (Buena Vista University) on July 17, 2006

I am preparing for a training where I will be working with some folks for a couple of weeks rather than a semester. There is definitely a difference between preparing to teach a semester long course and developing training for a two week cycle. I think the main aspect to this will be "knowledge activation". It will be more difficult to assess to see if there has been "knowledge gained" as opposed to basic retention. I wonder if there is any assessment tools for that?

Bloom's Taxonomy is a handy guide to preparing any course. I find that it has allowed me to structure both presentation coverage and assessment. (There are many, many hits when searching for this on the net - I like the ones which present the levels of intellectual behavior as a pyramid. However, I'm not convinced that the two top levels should be ordered - I think they are roughly on the same level.)I'd suggest using these levels along side your training objectives to determine what to assess and when to assess.

Cool thanks I'll check that one out.
