Persuasion using HypnosisCreated by Paul Wiwatowski (Wesley College) on February 11, 2010
If you have read my previous post regarding fear as a persuasion technique then this is the next step in understanding how hypnosis principles come into the picture. Persuasion is about being able to convince someone to do what you want them to do or at least think the way you do. Hypnosis is about using our brains programming to implant suggestion and make someone do what you want. This simple explanation shows how studying hypnosis will improve your persuasion skills because of an increased understanding about how our minds are programmed by different situations and past experiences in our lives. There are common experiences that we all have been through (1st day of school, falling in love, a fear of heights) and there are individual experiences that are more directly personal (usually overcoming fear or a bad experience). It is important to understand when to push a common emotional trigger or a personal one and what are the subtle techniques to use because we are about indirect persuasion not outright telling someone what to do. For a basic explanation and example I recommend looking at this persuasion hypnosis blog post.
