OLE Workshop - Indianapolis, INWednesday, April 22, 2009 10:00am - 3:00pm The Open Library Environment Project invites you to a 1 day workshop at the IUPUI University Libraries in Indianapolis, IN sponsored by the Indiana University System Libraries, Purdue University Libraries, and the University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Libraries. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum for representatives of Indiana and Midwest regional academic and research libraries and related institutions to discuss and provide feedback on the current state of the OLE Project Planning Document. The OLE Project will provide a fully vetted planning document for a community sourced information management system to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation by June 2009 and this workshop intends to solicit feedback from peer libraries in the Indiana region on this plan and to seek institutions who are interested in becoming part of a build out component of the OLE information management environment. The Mellon Funded Open Library Environment (OLE) Project will host another in its continuing series of educational webcasts on Feb 10, 2009 4:00 pm EST. This program will feature a conversation with the Kuali Foundation and its Executive Director Jennifer Foutty. The Kuali Foundation is a non-profit organization responsible for sustaining and evolving administrative software that meets the needs of all Carnegie Class institutions. Its members are colleges, universities, commercial firms and interested organizations that share a common vision of open, modular, and distributed systems for their software requirements. I will be talking more about the Mellon funded Open Library Environment along with Marshall Breeding at the upcoming CCS Forum in Denver. See announcement below. OLE representatives will participate in the CCS Forum at the American Library Association MidWinter Meeting entitled FRBR and RDA: a glimpse into the future of cataloging and public displays. The speakers will address how RDA and the FRBRized catalog will better support user tasks and streamline the cataloging environment. The panel will discuss research on the next generation of cataloging and the experiments with the next-generation ILS/ OPACs. Yesterday the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) announced the HathiTrust project. This project is a large-scale shared digital preservation program that includes all of the CIC Libraries as well as the libraries of the University of California System (California Digital Library) and has currently two replicated nodes at Indiana University and at the University of Michigan.
