Florida CARES initiative for Katrina victimsCreated by Robert H. McDonald (Indiana University) on September 2, 2005
The Florida CARES initiative – Coordinated Assistance to Resume Educational Studies – allows students in the hurricane-struck areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama to continue their education in Florida’s K-12 public schools and public and private community colleges and universities until they can return to their own schools or post-secondary institutions. Call our toll-free hot line: 1-877-FLCARE1 or 1-877-352-2731 or reach us through a special email address: Florida.CARES@fldoe.org to get help and information regarding admittance to Florida’s education system. “Florida’s education leaders are extending a helping hand of compassion. We have created a one-stop contact point for students and their families most in need due this hurricane. We promise a quick response to accommodate their needs. We want the students to stay in school, and we want their families to have the peace of mind to know their son or daughter will continue their education, regardless of the tragedy that surrounds them now.”
