Nifty Articles Featured on Digg.comCreated by Sarah E. Smith (North Carolina State University) on October 28, 2005
I would like to first apologize for not making a post on 10/14. In case you haven't noticed, I'm blogging on a relatively bi-weekly basis, unless there's something really cool that I find. But the 14th was just a bit too busy (and my birthday) so I took the day off.
I just wanted to post some links to some nifty sites that I found while using digg. Digg is a technology news site. However, the twist is that users "digg" stories they like and the ranking of the stories on the front page is based on the number of diggs and the length of time the story has been posted. There are some really cool sites that can be found via digg and the creators also have a weekly podcast that's pretty funny! So, there have been some cool, education related, posts in the last two days. First, there is a blog that has a listing of academic podcasts from various universities (1400 diggs at the time of writing). The blog post may be found here. Second, GE has created an online collaborative whiteboard application. I've been playing around with the program, and it's pretty nifty. I haven't tried the collaborative aspect of it yet, but it seems like it would be useful in a virtural classroom. Professors could collaborate with a student who had a question. They could collaborate to the right answer. This "board" could then be emailed to the rest of the class with an explanation. It currently looks like they can only support 3 connections per board, but still pretty cool stuff. And they have all sorts of cool tools that you can use.
