Cybersafety Booklet for Communicating with Kids Released Today

A new publication designed to help parents and teachers communicate with their children about cyber and mobile phone safety was unveiled today. Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski released Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids About Being Online in Washington, DC.  The booklet provides people with information on how to discuss a number of issues, including cyberbullying, online predators, and protecting the family computer.

“The conversations that make kids good digital citizens aren’t about technology; they’re about communicating your values as a parent,” Chairman Leibowitz said. “Net Cetera tells you how to start those conversations- even if you think your kids are more tech-savvy than you are.”

The free publication can be found online at the federal government’s online safety site: For more information about today's announcement, please see the FTC's press release here.
