Workshop on Research Data Lifecycle Management
Workshop on Research Data Lifecycle Management
This NSF-funded workshop, a collaboration between the EDUCAUSE ACTI Campus Cyberinfrastructure Group and the Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation (CASC), took place July 18 –20, 2011 at Princeton University.
The conference brought together researchers, librarians, archivists, and IT professionals to develop a data lifecycle management framework that addresses both the policy and financial opportunities and challenges of ensuring preservation of and access to data over long periods of time. By drawing together this diverse group of specialists, the workshop was able to leverage the progress made to date by the digital curation, preservation, and open repositories communities. Highlights from the workshop stressed the need for interaction, collaboration, and information sharing among diverse institutions and groups involved in High Performance Computing (HPC), research computing, IT, libraries, and archives.
This group coordinates closely with the ACTI-CCI working group, and the findings of the workshop will be submitted to EDUCAUSE for publication and posted on the CASC website. A summary of recommendations from the meeting is expected to be available in September, and there will be discussion of these at the CCI meeting that will take place at the EDUCAUSE Annual Meeting this October.
